Introducing the Leading Women Fund Thailand.
Leading Women Fund is a unique community of donors committed to support refugee women all over the world. The initiative was originated from Australia for UNHCR. A “Life Changing Network” is the core value that UNHCR in Thailand wishes to pursue among young female entrepreneurs in Thailand.
According to UNHCR’s latest annual Global Trends report, despite the pandemic, the number of people fleeing wars, violence, persecution and human rights violations in 2020 rose to nearly 82.4 million people. The Syrian conflict has displaced over 12 million people, of whom 75% are women and children. In the host country such as Jordan, one-third of all refugee households are headed by women and yet they comprised less than seven per cent of Syrian refugees in the paid workplace.
Leading Women Fund Thailand was established aiming to help refugee women build their capacity, skills and financial independence to provide for their families and protect themselves from poverty and exploitation.

Meet Konwika Phochatan (Kitar)
My work role at UNHCR MCO is to safeguard the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee, protecting and assisting refugees and displaced people around the world. Global forced displacement is currently at a record level, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with Thai female leaders who are influential in driving the economy and society of Thailand. These female leaders are productively adapting to the latest trends in technology as well as keeping up with environmental changes. I look forward to delivering support and sharing in the positive force for change to help other women, especially single mother refugees raising their families alone. I believe women and girls should have equal power and rights. Every woman has the right to live a life with purpose but still needs support and opportunities.
